WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION

The 8th Edition of “MRI in Veterinary Medicine” will be focused for the first time on Small Animal MRI applications, leaving room for a second conference on Equine MRI that will be organized in the second half of the year. The rich scientific program is a blend of clinical science, technology and practical guidelines on the best techniques in order to improve your study protocols, optimize sequence parameters and patient positioning. Moreover, this year we have extended the case lab session, where clinical studies will be presented and you will be able to interact directly with international experienced neurologists and radiologists.

Esaote has chosen a romantic small village in Sicily, for this year meeting, where the famous novelist Giovanni Verga wrote the great opera “I Malavoglia”, the heart wrenching story of a Sicilian family fisherman.

A meeting experience you don’t want to miss… see you in Sicily!!!

The venue that we have selected for the 2015 education program is at one of the
best european small animal clinics (www.tierklinik-haar.de), located nearby Munich
(Germany).

In this Vet MRI hands on training course, you will learn from veterinary imaging
experts and share experiences with other Vet MRI users, to improve your skills and
take full advantage of your MRI system’s capabilities.
Moreover you will be provided with practical guidelines on how to optimize sequence
parameters, position the patient and target the body structures to be studied with
the proper coil, in order to produce high resolution images to diagnose with pinpoint
accuracy.

This is not a sit and watch session, in fact to boost interaction, attendees will be
divided into groups for case lab and live sessions on the Vet MRI Grande system, for

Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, 2015

Venue: Milton Equine Hospital, Campbellville, ON

Location:Toronto, ON (Toronto Pearson Intl Airport)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Equine Practitioners are regularly confronted with poor performance-related questions, such as:  My horse has started to make a noise during exercise and struggles to keep up with the other horses; what do you think is causing it?   Do we need to investigate my horse’s reluctance to be ridden and problems with lateral work or do you think that this is a training-related issue? Evaluating horses for poor performance can be a daunting task because different conditions may present with similar clinical signs, leaving vets wondering where to start the investigation.

This 2-day practical course covers the most common causes of orthopedic and respiratory poor performance in sports horses, how to recognize them and to decide if they are clinically relevant.  The topics of management of horses with back/sacroiliac pain, how to devise tailor-made rehabilitation programs for musculoskeletal conditions and physiotherapy of the horse with upper front- and hindlimb problems and back/sacroiliac conditions will be discussed.  Indications and usefulness of chiropractic therapy, acupuncture and pulse, lactate and GPS tracking as training and rehabilitation tools will furthermore be reviewed.

The panel of internationally renowned specialists will present the following highly-illustrated lectures in the mornings:

  • Management of horses with Back & Sacroiliac Pain
  • Physiotherapy of the horse with Back / Sacroiliac Problems
  • Gurgles, Wheezes & Whistles – Making sense of the equine upper airways
  • Static & Dynamic Upper Respiratory Tract Endoscopy – Management Decision Making
  • Indications & Usefulness of Chiropractic Therapy
  • Can’t find anything else? – Diagnostics & Therapy of Muscle Conditions
  • Physiotherapy of the horse with upper front- and hindlimb problems
  • Indications & Usefulness of Acupuncture
  • Rehabilitation Programs – Making it effective for horse & owner
  • Using Pulse, Lactate and other analytes & GPS Tracking for Training and Rehabilitation

In the afternoons, 7 hours of practical sessions will allow delegates to further their practical skills on live horses in small groups (3-5 delegates per endoscope) and to further discuss the above topics with the specialists.   The following practical sessions will be supervised by the specialists during the course:

  • Upper Respiratory Endoscopy (incl. overground endoscopy)
  • Static physiotherapy (strengthening) exercises for Back / Sacroiliac & Upper Limb Conditions
  • Chiropractic Therapy of the Horse
  • Dynamic (strengthening) exercises for Back / Sacroiliac Conditions & Locking stifles
  • Acupuncture Therapy of the Horse
  • Poor Performance Case Discussions

The course fee includes lunches at a restaurant, coffee/tea breaks, extensive course notes and a certificate of attendance. Delegates can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Practical Sessions).  On the evening of the first day all delegates are invited to attend the course dinner, which costs $40 (not included in the registration fee; drinks will be charged extra).  Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available.

This course meets the requirement for 13 hours of Continuing Education in jurisdictions that recognize AAVSB’s RACE approval; however, participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of Continuing Education.

The Island of Elba

After 10 years we are going back to the orgins, in Tuscany where the very first MRI veterinary medicine meeting was held. Over the past decade, Esaote has confirmed its commitment to the evergrowing Vet MR community, which has actively taken part in the development of MRI solutions for veterinary clinical applications.

This year’s meeting aims to consolidate the relationships forged so far and foster the exchange of ideas and expertise amongst Esaote’s valued users and veterinarians interested in our technology.

An extraordinary venue has been chosen as the backdrop to a rich scientific programme based on small animals and equine MRI, offering advanced training and practical guidelines on the use of MRI in this field. See you in Tuscany!

6th Edition:
MRI in Veterinary Medicine

For the last decade Esaote has maintained its position as a worldwide market leader in Veterinary imaging and has continued to remain at the forefront of Veterinary education.

So far Esaote’s focus on education has been successfully channelled through five editions of “MRI in Veterinary Medicine” which has proven to be an excellent forum for educational and social exchange between professionals involved in veterinary medicine. The 6th edition of the meeting will be held for the first time outside of Europe, in Miami, USA. The choice of location this year was driven by our aim to further extend our international reach and to cater to the educational needs of the large community of U.S. based MRI users and clients that has grown over the years.

The scientific programme includes a wide range of topics from MRI physics to more clinical content. The scope is to give participants a sound understanding of best practice when executing MRI in Veterinary applications and appropriate tools for improving their diagnostic capabilities when addressing even more complex cases. Moreover, in line with tradition, the lectures will be delivered by expert speakers from Europe and the U.S.

In addition to appreciating the high quality of the program content, we hope that an attractive backdrop like Miami will also give participants the opportunity to combine work with a little pleasure.

The Island of Elba
The Island of Elba is the third largest Italian island after Sicily and Sardinia and is the largest in the Tuscan Archipelago. It has recently become part of the Tuscan Archipelago’s National Park together with the islands of Pianosa, Capraia, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri. Made famous by Napoleon, who spent a year in exile on the island from May 1814, Elba now attracts more than one million tourists a year for its wonderfully transparent seas, beaches of many kinds and verdant mediterranean maquis, typical of the island. However, to find Elba’s most precious treasures you have to look underground. The island appeared to be so rich in minerals that legend had it that its mines held inexhaustible supplies of iron and it represents also a magnificient open air museum of minerals.

Torino
Turin is a gracious city of wide boulevards, elegant arcades and grand public buildings. The city has the air of a capital “manqué” rather than a provincial outpost. Though much of the suburban sprawl is less than picturesque, there’s an enormous green belt with views of the Alps east of the river.
